Are you planning a vacation or a fun weekend around Birmingham with your children? I’d love to help you find the perfect place(s) to go! As a birmingham family photographer and a fellow parent, I know exactly what children like! Let’s face it, if the kids are having a good time, it’s bound to be a wonderful day for the parents. That’s why I’ve made this list of FUN things to do in Birmingham with kids!
It may seem like a cliché answer, but I have yet to meet a child who does not love animals! At the Birmingham Zoo, you will be able to feed giraffes, ride on the train, play at the splash pad, and more! If you choose to visit during spring or summer, be sure to stop off at the train first to avoid a long line. Will you be there during lunch time? They have multiple delicious restaurants in the zoo! Alternatively, pack your own lunch and use their picnic tables to take a break and munch. Be sure to check out their camps and programs for extended fun!
While you’re there, take a small hike across the street and also have a look at the beautiful Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Their website lists what’s in bloom at different times, as well as different events and programs they offer! The gardens are also a gorgeous spot for a photoshoot, so be sure to invite me along with you, haha!
Especially if you have children of all ages, check out the McWane Science Center! This science museum has multiple floors of exhibits. Be sure to take your babies and toddlers to the “Itty Bitty Magic City” on the second floor. Your older children are bound to enjoy the Alabama Dinosaurs and Sea Monsters exhibits right outside of the toddler play room! When you all need to sit and relax, check out the movie in the IMAX Dome theater. Other classics include the Shark & Ray Touch Tank, Ocean Journey, Bubble Room, Bed of Nails, and soon a new Dragon exhibit!
Plan to be there during lunch? Enjoy the “hip and healthy” Beansprouts café! Their yummy, allergy friendly food is served in fun shapes for kids such as the “spaceadilla” and “flutter bite.” Parents can also enjoy pizza, sandwiches, soups, salads, and more. Are you ready to plan your super fun visit to Birmingham’s most popular science museum? Grab your tickets now, and enjoy!
With locations in both Trussville and Homewood, you’re never too far away from Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park! If you’ve never been to a trampoline park before, this is one attraction that you HAVE to check out. Parents, this is nothing compared to the trampoline we had in our backyards growing up. At Urban Air, there is a set of trampolines for tumbling, a set for playing dodgeball, a slam dunk zone, and MORE. To see if you “have what it takes”, check out the Warrior Course! Need a break from trampolines? Explore the ropes course, climbing walls, or tubes playground. Some of the attractions have height requirements to help ensure safety for all ages of jumpers.
Not only is the Urban Air Trampoline and Adventure Park fun for a day with the family, you can even host your child’s next birthday party here! Check out their calendar for special Glow Nights and other special events. Don’t worry about food, either. Urban Air knows that your kids will be hungry after playing hard. Head on over to the Urban Air Café to enjoy some pizza and an ICEE! What are you waiting for? Hop to it! (Ha, see what I did there?)
Alabama summer months are hot and humid!! Cool off and have loads of fun at the Alabama Adventure & Splash Adventure. Explore everything there from the roller coasters, water rides, stores, restaurants, and more! With over 26 attractions, you’ll be able to find something for everyone in your family, of all ages. Feel free to take some time to relax in the water also, being an adult is hard and you deserve it.
Want to know a few unique perks of this amusement park? Enjoy lots of FREE perks such as free parking, sodas throughout the park, life jackets, and more! Bring your own stroller, wagon, or wheelchair, or rent yours for only $10 a day! Small coolers are allowed, as well as non-alcoholic drinks in non-glass containers. Only baby food and medical necessities are allowed inside the park, but you may choose to enjoy a home-packed lunch on picnic tables outside the park if you do not want food from one of their many restaurants.
