3 Birmingham Midwives to Lead You on Your Birth Journey

Birmingham Home Midwifery

Birmingham Home Midwifery was founded by local mom named Lauren. She began her journey in the birthing field while serving as an intern for Urban Ministries, which is a faith based non-profit in an underserved area of Birminghma. She completed her doula training through BirthWell Partners. What finally sent her into midwifery, though, was her own birth. The care she received while giving birth to her son made her feel empowered to begin the journey into motherhood. Today, Lauren works closely with 2 birth assistants to deliver babies throughout Birmingham.

Birmingham Home Midwifery provides an abundance of services. Each client begins with a free consultation where Lauren will answer any questions you may have and see if you’re a great fit for one another. Once you are established, Lauren will be with you throughout your pregnancy offering prenatal care. You’ll have physicals, routine tests, learn the birth options, discuss concerns, and more. When early labor comes around, she will come to your home when you are ready, and she’ll monitor you closely. Unlike in hospitals, you’re encouraged to move around, eat, and drink. Family and friends are always welcome with Lauren and she’ll work with you to involve them as much as you’d like. After birth, Lauren will perform routine checkups for the newest member of the family. This is also the time when you can ask any questions you have to your Birmingham midwife.

Aurora Midwifery

Aurora Midwifery began in 2020 by Hamilton Yarbrough after her years of experience in the field. She strives to walk alongside you while putting you at the front of your care. She has two additional Birmingham midwives and three birth assistants at her midwifery.

Aurora Midwifery offers a variety of services, including:

  • Free Consultation
  • Prenatal Care
  • Birth
  • Alongside Care
  • Postpartum Care

It is not legal in the state of Alabama to try for a VBAC during a home birth. They are only allowed in the hospital as those moms are considered high risk. Alongside care would allow Hamilton to join you in the hospital as a certified doula, so you still have her care even if you can’t have a home birth. She would be your Birmingham midwife before and after your labor and delivery. Home birth with Aurora Midwifery ranges from $3500-$5900.
